I respect women????

Marta Noemi Artwork
Today at 7 am I received a forwarded message. The text started with, the best post I have read in a long time.. Honestly I was curious and hopeful, why because I thought the sender was talking about one of my blog post, but that feeling dissipated faster than it came when I went on to read the content which was surrounding women strength and I realised that I had read it before.

So I scrolled down, down, further down, until I reached the meaning of WOMAN which went something like.

WOMAN means

W- Wonderful Mother
O- Outstanding Friend
M- Marvellous Daughter
A- Adorable Sister
(and this was my favourite)
N- Nicest Gift to Men From God..

which was indelibly followed by the statement - I RESPECT WOMEN.

I know for sure, there must have been times when I must have forwarded this very message in the spirit of acknowledging women contribution. and trust me I am a huge fan of forwards, especially women, girl empowerment. But today like I said, I stopped dead in my tracks.

I had an issue. See the issue was with the last two lines of the message. Women are the nicest gift to men from God and as if as an afterthought- I respect women.

So I am debating with myself, what happens when a man gets a gift from GOD. Doesn't he become some kind of a proprietor of that GIFT. and if these gifts  are his, then doesn't the MEN or the PROPRIETOR become the authority on how to well use or abuse the gift.

So immediately you have through this message given a wide range of outstanding accolades to women... but ultimately what you have done is that you have actually  validated the mindset which says,  Women belong to MEN.  and somehow I have a strong objection to that premise.

Just to close it with the thought.. that woman are not things that can be referred to as gifts, women do not have to have a meaning as a mother or friend or daughter or sister to be complete in herself. Women are living beings and ought to be treated as one not as someone's sacrificial lamb whose meaning is in context to someone else. As a woman I don't want to be magnanimous, I don't want to be nice, wonderful, adorable, marvelous or anything remotely closer to that.

I AM ME...... JUST ME
