From Uncertainty to Certainty

The concept of Certainty can be seen as a feeling of surety, which often comes about by navigating through uncertain times. Change is the only constant, but more often than not what we worry about is the kind of change coming our way.

I think the movement from uncertainty to certainty is a deliberate process which requires thought out steps. Now take yourselves some 8 months back. Australian bushfires were the only things that were doing rounds of social media. There were reports of a virus but nothing that would give us sleepless nights. We were going about our lives in the best possible manner.

Then in a matter of few days, all hell broke loose. We went from happiness initially to confusion to fear to denial to anger to panic in a very short time. It was difficult for us to deal with so much uncertainty so fast. We were required to salvage what was there in the moment, ensure that we were safe and at the same time had to protect loved one from mental stress. What happened as a result-

  • a)     People got closer to families. Some connections which were for lack of time or in some cases intent were simply ignored, now began to be nurtured.
  • b)     Communities came together to help people in distress.
  • c)      Children who were never a part of household taskforce actively started participating.
  • d)     Spouses started working together
  • e)     People started learning.
  • f)       They adapted themselves to new age learning.
  • g)     School caught up, Offices geared up and homes became the new hub for everything.

The transition to change the world which was long overdue happened within a span of 8 months. We forced ourselves to learn with time or adapt. It wasn’t easy but we were ‘Certain it was required.  This certainty gave us the confidence to keep going and the aptitude to look for answers.

There was another phenomenon which came with certainty and that was ‘Vulnerability.’  We knew that since all of us are sailing in the same boat, we were comfortable with our vulnerability. We were openly asking for help and people were offering it too.

Our Certainty gives us the confidence to be ourselves. When we are ourselves, we strive to find a solution.  Dipti Kariwala, Champion Gratitude Messenger talks about moving forward. She calls this direction of progress,  a cumulative of every day that becomes our future one day.

This is the power of certainty and gratitude.
