The
highlight of India Australia T 20 match today was Mathew Wade’s wicket. Virat
Kohli, despite dropping the catch managed to dismiss him. The initial frustration
soon turned into exhilaration as we saw Wade walking out of the ground. What
was my takeaway from this situation-
Virat
Kohli despite dropping the catch managed to maintain focus and dismiss Wade.
Wade
on the other hand, assumed that he is
caught and out and was already on his way out, before realizing that he still
had a shot.
This
for me is where the magic happens. Virat who was focused on making things work
despite a bad situation persevered and got the wicket. Wade, who was also
focused on maximizing the score, lost his focus when he deemed himself out and at
that moment missed an opportunity.
To
be focused means to be invested with all five senses. In that moment even if one
of your sense goes in a different direction, chances are that you will sooner
than later lose the entire battle. I have spoken in the past about purpose,
journey, certainty, and vision. At the centre of each of these is Focus.
Focus
doesn’t come easily, especially in this era of distraction. Even a thing like
writing my blog sometimes takes the whole day because I am divided between 10
things out of which at least 5 are frivolous distractions.
The reason I chose this topic was that for the past couple of months, I saw my
family struggle with the focus like never before. Covid, Lockdown, Change, giving
enough reasons for everyone in the family to be distracted. The challenge was to
work together to overcome it and we did.
Have
you ever wondered what will happen if you were able to reduce your distractions
and focus better. How will that impact your day to day life?
